Jude Bellingham celebrating his back-heeled goal for Real Madrid in the Champions League

Jude Bellingham celebrated a historic milestone with a brilliant back-heeled goal as Real Madrid secured a dramatic 3-2 Champions League victory over AEK Athens on Wednesday. The England international was named player of the match after helping his side fight back from a goal down twice, before Federico Valverde struck a stoppage-time winner.

A Historic Champions League Milestone

At just 23 years and 128 days old, Bellingham became the youngest player in history to make 60 appearances in European club football's top competition. By reaching this landmark, he overtook iconic former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Casillas had previously held the record as the youngest player to reach 50 appearances in the tournament. Bellingham, who had already claimed that 50-appearance milestone, has now cemented his name further into the competition's history books with his 60th outing.

Stunning Back-Heel Sparks Madrid Comeback

Real Madrid were forced to dig deep against AEK Athens, falling behind twice during the encounter. Bellingham provided a crucial strike in the 32nd minute with a moment of individual brilliance.

Connecting with a cross from Marc Cucurella, the midfielder flicked a first-time back-heeled shot past AEK Athens goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli. Reflecting on the goal, Bellingham explained his thought process.

"It was just instinct really," Bellingham said. "I found myself in a good position and managed to do the only thing that came naturally in that position. It was a nice one."

The Spanish giants continued to push for a result, eventually securing all three points when Federico Valverde delivered a decisive winner deep into stoppage time.

Mourinho Hails "Extraordinary" Bellingham

Following the match, Jose Mourinho offered glowing praise for the young midfielder's all-around impact on the pitch.

"He is a unique player. Today, there is no midfielder in world football like Jude, who is complete on all levels," Mourinho stated.
"I don’t have many words because, for me, he is an absolutely extraordinary player. Even on a day when he doesn’t have a great match, one of those jaw-dropping performances, he still brings work, leadership, ambition, quality, and goal-scoring ability. He is an extraordinary player."
