Tenerife pledge support for family at Jesús de Miguel funeral

The Jesús de Miguel funeral was held on Thursday afternoon in the village of Navahermosa, three days after his tragic death resulting from an on-field collision. As the Spanish football community gathered to pay their respects, club officials pledged lifelong support for his bereaved family and acknowledged the deep psychological toll on his teammates.

Tenerife vow to support widow and daughter

Jesús de Miguel Alameda, affectionately known within the sport as 'Demi', was laid to rest following a solemn procession. Mourners moved from the local funeral home to the parish church of San Miguel Arcángel in the La Mancha region. During the gathering, Tenerife's leadership made clear their long-term commitment to the player's family.

Rayco García, the club's majority shareholder, directly addressed De Miguel's teammates during the mourning period. He asked the squad to remain close to the striker's widow, Maria, in the weeks and months ahead. Furthermore, García vowed that the club would forever take care of the couple's daughter, Clara, ensuring her future is supported by the institution her father represented.

The emotional weight of the sudden tragedy on the squad and staff was evident throughout the day. Tenerife president Felipe Miñambres addressed the difficult path forward for the team, highlighting the necessity of psychological assistance in the aftermath of the striker's passing.

"We will get through this together but we will need help, professional help,"

Miñambres stated.

The impact of the tragedy reached the highest levels of the national game, prompting Spain manager Luis de la Fuente to travel to Navahermosa to pay his respects. The small village, which has a population of just 3,587 people, hosted prominent figures from across the sport who came to support the grieving family.

"We wanted to be close to his parents, his wife and daughter. In moments of pain, football comes together more than ever,"

De la Fuente said.

Fatal on-field collision

De Miguel's funeral took place just three days after the fatal incident that claimed his life. The striker died following a severe collision on the pitch with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono. The sudden and public nature of the event has left Tenerife, their supporters, and the wider football community navigating an unprecedented period of grief as they mourn the loss of the forward.
